I didn't figure this place to be on the frontage road of the town. It took about 3 hours of searching this large image to find it. |

I had to flip the photo but if you notice the hotel in the background it is the same hotel in the picture above that is painted beige. Look at the word "Pension" on the hotel in the background. Look at the iron work on the balcony then look at the iron work in the picture above. It hasn't changed in almost 90 years.

I was surfing the web and trying to find anything Leutesdorf when I cam across this photo which is the back side of the picture above. Its only a small portion of what I could find. If you have any pictures of this town now and some of the buildings please email them to me and you will receive full credit. This photo belongs to someone as it was taken from Wikipedia but no one was credited.

This is the hamlet of Leutesdorf. It is in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The Capitol of which is Mainz. Located in the western portion of Germany it was part of the French zone after WWII. The Geyser in the background was shutdown, if my German is correct, in 1957 and they are trying to get it back to operational status. It was capped. Check out the satellite image below.

The Sat image was added to show how much people places and things grow. On the Marines page the photo of the 3 Marines on the hill side in the vinyards was probably taken on the hillside in the lower right of this image. The railroad is still prominent as a terrain feature.

The geyser is sealed up. If you notice the pictures above the land around the geyser is seperated from the main land. Today it has been back filled and a small autobahn has been run through it. The sandbars pictured in this photo can still be seen in the original picture from about 1918.
