The US Marines were used whatever they could to get around the battlefield with. In most cases it was mule drawn wagons and the occasional horse. The logistics of horse and wagons was by far easier than trucks and cars. Running trains with "40 or 8s" were abundant. These pictures are from my grandfathers personal collection.

 

 

The US Marine gravy train never stops as a marine fights on and with his stomach. Marine MKTs (mobile kitchen trailers) move to a new logger head to set up for feeding. Local transportation, in this case a street car, resume service for the local residents.
